2. Terms of Repair Services
2.1. The Repair Service
ERL provides a repair service for the customer's own faulty electronic control unit ("unit"). When you purchase this service from a product page on our website, you are booking in your own unit for repair.
As part of the booking, you must provide a detailed fault description, select the correct service options, and note any related parts replaced in the vehicle. You must also send any additional components that ERL specifies may be required to complete testing and repairs.
Upon receipt, ERL will conduct testing using our in-house testers and diagnostic tools to confirm the described fault. If the fault is confirmed and the unit is repairable, ERL will perform the repair and return the unit to you. This completes the repair order.
2.2. Testing, Inspection & Assessment Policy
Our Diagnostic Process: At ECU Repair Lab, we use a range of specialized testing equipment to pinpoint the root cause of faults in your components. Our technicians can perform a detailed analysis to identify specific failures.
We replicate operational stress in our lab by using methods such as thermal cycling (heat soak and cold start simulation) and vibration testing. This allows us to confirm both constant and intermittent faults. Our process involves proprietary in-house testers (like V-sim), professional diagnostic scantools, and oscilloscope analysis to monitor critical data streams—such as ignition signals, injector pulses, and other duty cycles—in real-time. This methodology allows us to identify failures with high precision.
Units are typically disassembled for a thorough visual and microscopic inspection of the main circuit board (PCB) and internal components. This helps us uncover physical defects like capacitor aging, poor solder joints, weakened connections, or signs of corrosion and contamination, which are often the cause of intermittent problems.
Testing & Assessment Fees: A diagnostic cover charge, as listed on the relevant product page, will apply under the following conditions:
- If a unit is sent to us for repair, but our comprehensive testing proves that it is operating correctly (i.e. not faulty for the reported fault).
- If a unit is confirmed to be faulty but is deemed unrepairable, and the customer declines an offered replacement unit (if available).
This fee covers the technician's time and resources used during the diagnostic process. The testing fee is waived if the customer chooses to proceed with a preventative remanufacturing service on a working unit.
Customer's Diagnostic Responsibility: It is the customer's sole responsibility to ensure that correct and thorough diagnostics have been performed on the vehicle before sending a unit to us for repair.
You must be confident that the unit is the source of the fault and have reasonably eliminated other potential causes (e.g., vehicle wiring, sensors, actuators, or other modules). ERL is not responsible or liable for any costs incurred due to misdiagnosis by you or a third-party mechanic.
If a part is sent to us and is found to be in good working condition ("Not Fault for the reported fault") or if the fault is substantially different from the one described in the repair booking, the testing and assessment fee will apply.
2.3. 48-72 Hours (2-3 Days) Turnaround Service
The ERL 48-72 hours (2-3 days) service applies exclusively to repair jobs booked online via ecurepairlab.com.au. This service is available solely for repairs involving known faults and established repair processes as listed on the ERL website.
Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the 48-72 hours service, the following conditions must be met at the time of booking:
- The booking must be fully completed with pre-approval for all costs (fully paid during checkout) to allow ERL to start testing and repairs immediately.
- All required parts for the repair must be provided with the unit.
- A comprehensive fault report, detailing any fault or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), must accompany the booking and parts submission.
Jobs with missing parts, incomplete information, or missing fault reports will be rendered ineligible for the 48-72 hours turnaround service.
Service Target (Not Guarantee): While ERL strives to complete eligible repairs within the 48-72 hours (2-3 day) window, this timeframe is a service target, not a binding guarantee. The potential complexities and variability of electronic repairs mean unforeseen issues can arise. ERL cannot be held liable for repairs that exceed this window. In the case of unforeseen delays, ERL will inform the customer promptly but shall not assume responsibility for any losses or inconveniences.
Shipping Time Excluded: All quoted turnaround times exclude shipping duration. The 2-3 days window begins when your unit is received at our lab and ends when it is dispatched. Shipping times to and from ERL are factored separately.
2.4. Unrepairable Units & Refunds
In the event a unit is deemed unrepairable after testing, ERL will contact you to discuss options:
- Replacement: We may offer a replacement unit, which will be an additional cost to the service fee already paid.
- Return & Refund: If no replacement is available or you decline the offer, we will return the faulty unit to you. A refund of the original amount paid will be processed, minus our testing and investigation charge (as per Section 2.2) and the return shipping charge.
3. Shipping Policy
3.1. Inbound Shipping (To ERL)
The customer is responsible for all costs and risks associated with shipping the faulty unit and any additional required components to ECU Repair Lab. An order confirmation email with our shipping address and instructions will be sent after purchase.
3.2. Return Shipping (From ERL)
The shipping cost paid at checkout is a fixed charge for the return of your unit from ERL to you via our chosen express shipping method.
3.3. Shipping Methods and Delivery
- Options & Costs: Available return shipping options and costs are calculated and displayed during the checkout process.
- Delivery Time: The estimated delivery time depends on the shipping method chosen and the destination. Please note that delivery times are estimates and may be subject to unforeseen delays caused by factors beyond our control (e.g., customs inspections, adverse weather, courier delays).
- Tracking: For most orders, we provide tracking information via email once your repaired unit has been shipped.
3.4. Customer Support
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your order or shipment, our customer support team is here to assist you. You can reach out to us via email or phone, and we will be happy to provide the necessary assistance.
4.2. Repair Warranty & Scope
If your fault is listed as a common and repairable issue, ERL guarantees the repair for 12 months with unlimited kilometres.
This warranty applies ONLY to the specific fault and circuit components that were repaired by ERL.
For example, if ERL repairs an ignition coil control circuit fault, that specific repair is warrantied for 12 months. If the unit fails 12 months later due to a different fault (e.g., an injector circuit fault or processor fault), this new fault is not covered under the original warranty.
- Should the same fault reoccur within this period, simply return the relevant component with a detailed report of the fault to our lab.
- We will prioritise your assessment, and if the fault is confirmed to be related to our repair, we will repair it again at no cost, including return freight to your workshop.
- If the fault cannot be repaired again, we will offer a replacement or refund, at our discretion.
4.3. Post-Repair Malfunction (Warranty Claim Process)
In the event that an item does not operate correctly following repair within the warranty period, customers may return the item to ERL for further testing.
- Return Authorisation: Customers are responsible for contacting ERL for return authorisation before sending back the item.
- Shipping: Items returned for testing are subject to shipping fees, which are the customer's responsibility (unless the fault is confirmed as a valid warranty claim, per Clause 4.2).
- Repair or Refund: If the malfunction is attributed to failed components or substandard workmanship within the warranty period, ERL holds the right to either repair the item at no additional cost or provide a refund equivalent to the initial repair fee paid to ERL (with proof of purchase of a replacement).
4.4. Excluded Failures (Warranty Void)
This warranty is void if the unit has been tampered with, opened, or if failure is determined to be caused by external factors. These factors include, but are not limited to:
- Faulty wiring in the vehicle
- Improper installation of the repaired unit
- Failed external components (e.g., faulty ignition coils, injectors, sensors, actuators, etc.)
- Water damage, fire damage, or impact damage
It is the customer's mandatory responsibility to rectify and replace all faulty components and wiring in the vehicle (which may have caused the unit to fail) before reinstalling the repaired electronic control unit. Failure to do so will likely cause the repaired unit to fail again, and this subsequent failure will not be covered under warranty.
4.5. Non-Transferable Warranty
This warranty is exclusively for the original purchaser and is non-transferable. It is also subject to the lifespan of the product or system into which it is integrated. (For example, if an automobile reaches the end of its useful life, a rebuilt instrument cluster cannot retain continuous warranty coverage if transplanted into a replacement vehicle).
5. Liability and Indemnification
5.1. Exclusion of Damages & Liability Release
ERL shall not be held liable for, and hereby excludes, any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages associated with the use or failure of services provided by ERL.
ERL shall be released from all forms of liability, including but not limited to:
- Loss of profits, loss of income, or loss of a work contract;
- Loss of product, loss of production, or spoilage of perishable goods;
- Increased operational costs, vehicle rental fees, or costs associated with missed appointments;
- Any other losses or damages connected with the utilization of, or failure of, services and products offered by ERL.
5.2. Liability Cap
Under no circumstances will ERL be held accountable for damages surpassing the total repair cost paid to ERL by the customer.
5.3. Liability for Website Use
We, any other party (whether or not involved in creating, producing, maintaining or delivering this Website), and any of our group companies and the officers, directors, employees, shareholders or agents of any of them, exclude all liability and responsibility for any amount or kind of loss or damage that may result to you or a third party (including without limitation, any direct, indirect, punitive or consequential loss or damages, or any loss of income, profits, goodwill, data, contracts, use of money, or loss or damages) in connection with this Website in any way or in connection with the use, inability to use or the results of use of this Website. This includes but is not limited to loss or damage due to viruses that may infect your computer equipment, software, data or other property on account of your access to, use of, or browsing this Website.
5.4. Assumption of Costs
If your use of material on this Website results in the need for servicing, repair or correction of equipment, software or data, you assume all costs thereof.
5.5. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us fully, defend and hold us, and our officers, directors, employees and agents, harmless from and against all claims, liability, damages, losses, costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of any breach of the terms and conditions by you, or your use of this Website.
